Shout out to our student leaders! Today get to know senior accounting major Madison Heil. She is president of Accounting and Professional Services Club.

MadisonWhat are some of your favorite classes or experiences at Romain College?
I really enjoyed Business Law with Carol Jansons.

Why did you choose accounting as your major?
I chose Accounting and Professional Services as my major because I took an Introduction to Accounting class in high school and loved it. I also had the opportunity to intern for a CPA for two years, where I performed bookkeeping tasks. I’ve always been driven by numbers, so accounting just made the most sense to me. Now, as a senior, I’ve come to realize just how versatile an accounting degree is. There are numerous opportunities available to accounting students, especially in the Tristate area.

What advice do you have for incoming freshmen? What do you wish someone had told you?
Get gas the night before. Do little things now to set your future self up for success. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they’re one of the best ways to learn. Talk to your professors and classmates, and if you get the chance to intern somewhere, take it. Internships are a great way to find out what career path you could see yourself in. And above all, be yourself!

Are there any hidden gems on campus you think everyone should know about?
The biking and walking trails!

What are your career goals?
I’d like to work in corporate accounting or in the human resources department for a company here in Evansville. Eventually, I’d love the opportunity to move into management or a senior-level corporate accounting role.

Tell us more about APS Club and why 91ÉçÇø students should get involved with it!
APS Club is open to all business majors who want to learn more about the accounting profession. We partner with Beta Alpha Psi to host weekly professional speakers, often accountants, who share their experiences and career paths. It’s a great way to explore where an accounting degree can lead, network with professionals, and build connections with fellow accounting students who will one day be your peers in the field.

What’s on your bucket list?
-Travel to Hawaii
-Run a marathon
-Visit Glacier National Park in Montana

What is one thing everyone is obsessed with that you totally don’t get the point of?
I might get some heat for this one, but… sports! I just don’t get it.
