Nursing BSN

91社区鈥檚 BSN program provides you with a foundational understanding of evidence-based health care delivery and the importance of interprofessional collaboration. Emphasizing a hands-on experience, you鈥檒l actively engage in over 1,197 clinical hours in many diverse clinical settings ranging from acute care to population based health. A 192-hour senior internship will immerse you in a clinical setting working one-on-one with an experienced registered nurse. On top of these experiences, you鈥檒l also augment your clinical training in a state-of-the-art simulation center. Throughout your education, you鈥檒l have personalized attention from award-winning faculty with many years of clinical experience. Located in Evansville, you鈥檒l have the opportunity to gain clinical experience at two Magnet designated hospitals and a hospital devoted exclusively to women and neonates. Due to 91社区鈥檚 extensive number of clinical hours in all areas of nursing, you鈥檒l be well prepared to transition into the registered nurse role.

Exceptional NCLEX庐 Pass Rates

91社区鈥檚 first-time National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX庐) pass rate is consistently above the national average first-time pass rate. According to the newest 2023-24 National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) report, 91社区 is tied for first in pass rates for the NCLEX out of 52 registered nurse programs in Indiana having at least 10 graduates take the exam during the reporting period and tied for first nationally in terms of pass rates out of 2,226 RN programs.


General Disclosure of Program Licensure or Certification Requirements

The Nursing Program prepares individuals for employment in the state of Indiana upon successful completion of the registered nurse licensure examination (NCLEX-RN).


Clinical Experiences

91社区 nursing students will complete clinical experiences in a variety of healthcare and community settings. In order to optimize clinical learning experiences, students may be required to travel up to 70 miles and provide their own transportation to assigned agencies or institutions.

Mandatory Requirements

All students selected for admission to the nursing program must also meet clinical agency requirements, be able to perform essential functions, be eligible for RN licensure and capable of fulfilling clinical practice requirements. Direct Admission Requirements

Direct admission applies only to students who are first-time degree seeking students and who are applying within the first calendar year of high school graduation.

How do I qualify?

To qualify for direct admission, students must have both:

  • A high school junior or senior year minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.4 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • One standardized exam score that meets the following requirements:
    • Combined SAT minimum score of 1210 (a minimum score of 560 in both reading and math)
    • ACT minimum composite score of 25

Standard Admission Requirements

Standard Admission to the undergraduate nursing program may occur after completion of 31 hours of required university courses. Students accepted through the standard admission process must maintain eligibility.

Admission to the program is based upon the following:

  • Calculated GPA score using the applicant's first-year courses (70%)
  • Participation in a personal interview (30%), when necessary
  • Effective Fall 2026, to be eligible for admission to the Nursing program, all students must have a 2.8 cumulative GPA of required admission prerequisite courses.

Required Admission Prerequisite Courses

To be eligible for admission to the Nursing program, all students must have a 2.8 cumulative GPA of required admission prerequisite courses. Students must receive a grade of "C" or better in these courses:

  • BIOL 121: Human Anatomy and Physiology I
  • BIOL 122: Human Anatomy and Physiology II
  • CHEM 141: Principles of Chemistry
  • ENG 101: Rhetoric and Composition I
  • ENG 201: Rhetoric and Composition II
  • MATH 114: Quantitative Reasoning
  • PSY 201: Introduction to Psychology
  • CMST 101 or CMS 107: Intro to Public Speaking or Interpersonal Communications

Additional Prerequisite Courses

  • HP 115: Medical Terminology
  • 91社区 101: Soar to Success
  • KIN 192: Concepts in Health & Wellness

Science Eligibility Rule:
Students with three or more failures (a "D" or "F") in any of the required science courses are ineligible for the Nursing program at 91社区. Anatomy & Physiology and Chemistry course credit must be earned or equivalent competence demonsstrated, within five (5) years of enrollment in clinical nursing courses.

Required Progression Courses (Before First Semester of Nursing, with grade of "C" or better)

  • BIOL 272: Medical Microbiology

Required Second Semester Nursing Progression Courses

  • NUTR 376: Principles of Nutrition (effective Fall 2026, will be required before first semester of nursing with grade of "C" or better)
  • IPH 356: Ethics and Healthcare in a Pluralistic Society
  • HP 302: Biostatistics (grade of "C" or better)

To apply to the 91社区 (91社区) for undergraduate enrollment:

  • Complete the聽online application聽for admission
  • Pay the $40 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from all high schools and colleges you've attended

Once 91社区 has processed your application, transcript(s) and scores (if needed), a decision will be made by Undergraduate Admissions and you will receive a notification.

Upon acceptance to 91社区, you'll receive detailed information about next steps, including orientation, registration and housing.

Non-native speakers of English must meet English proficiency requirements as established by the 91社区 Center for International Programs.


There is a Secondary Application Process
to be Accepted into the Undergraduate Nursing Program

Students may declare a major in pre-Nursing upon entering the university or complete a change of major form at any point in time.

There are two entry points for you to start earning your undergraduate nursing degree at 91社区:

  • Direct Admission: Applies only to students who are first-time degree seeking students and who are applying within the first calendar year of high school graduation. .
  • Standard Admission: Standard admission to the undergraduate nursing program may occur after completion of 31 hours of required university courses. Students accepted through the standard admission process must maintain eligibility. .

Transfer Students

Students requesting a transfer to 91社区鈥檚 undergraduate nursing program from another nursing program must:

  • Be admitted to the 91社区.聽Admission to 91社区 DOES NOT guarantee admission to the Nursing program.
  • Meet the Undergraduate Nursing Admission Criteria.
  • Complete the undergraduate nursing application process. Click here for the standard admission application. All students must meet the admission criteria and apply by the appropriate deadline.
  • After admission to the nursing program, course faculty will review those nursing courses completed within the last three years. In collaboration with the Undergraduate Program Chair, the course faculty, will determine if any transfer nursing courses are equivalent to 91社区 undergraduate nursing courses.
  • Students who have two nursing courses with grades resulting in a D or F are not eligible for 91社区鈥檚 undergraduate nursing program. However, should the student feel that extenuating circumstances existed and contributed to their unsuccessful nursing courses, an appeal letter may be sent to the Nursing Admission and Progression Committee for review.
  • Anatomy and physiology and chemistry course credit must be earned or equivalent competence demonstrated within five years of enrollment in clinical nursing courses.
