Campus construction update - July 2025
July 1, 2025
The last few months, construction crews have been busy across campus starting and continuing various building projects. From Phase IV of the Health Professions Center to upcoming renovations to the Wright Administration Building, here鈥檚 what鈥檚 happening with 91社区鈥檚 current construction projects. 听
Health Professions Center: 听
The Health Professions Center renovations and construction projects are currently in Phase IV and progressing forward, says John Reis, 91社区 Construction Project Manager. The building will be expanded by over 48,000 square feet, creating room for classrooms, updated labs and state-of-the-art equipment for the growing healthcare programs in the Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions. 听
The construction also includes transforming the building鈥檚 exterior and entrance to campus. Full details on the project can be found here. The projected completion of Phase IV is anticipated for early 2027. 听
During this phase, one lane of University Boulevard will continue to be impacted as well as some building access points as needed. 听
Wright Administration Building听
Bids for renovations and an addition to the Wright Administration Building are expected to go out on Tuesday, July 1, with work anticipated to begin in early August, says Reis. The project will be in phases to keep the impact on classrooms and the Forums as minimal as possible. 听
The work will include needed renovations and restructuring of offices and classrooms in the building, as well as improvements to HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, communications technology and structural updates.听
Currently, the project is in the early stages, and plans are being made to relocate departments and offices within Wright as construction begins in specific areas. That information has not been finalized as of the end of June, according to Reis, but once locations are determined and moving has been completed, that information will be shared with the campus community through 91社区 Today.听
Reis states the project has an anticipated completion of early 2027.听
Creative and Print Center听
Work continues to progress on a new Creative and Print Center located along Bluff Lane near the 91社区 Support Services Building. This building will include offices for University Creative and Print staff, as well as expanded space for the University鈥檚 print services, including the Copy Center, bindery equipment, large format printing equipment and paper storage. The current Creative and Print Center, located on the west side of campus near Reflection Lake, will be used for temporary office space during renovation of other areas of campus. 听
Work is projected to be completed near the end of 2025.听听
Rice Library: STEM Lab and Athletics Academic Center听
Walk or drive past Rice Library on University Boulevard and you鈥檒l notice construction trucks and dumpsters. Currently, the lower level of the Library is receiving cosmetic updates including paint and new flooring, but there are also new construction projects happening in the building.听听
Construction on the STEM Innovation Lab鈥攍ocated on the first floor of the Library鈥攂egan earlier this summer and is expected to be wrapped up around the start of the 2025 Fall Semester. Funded in part by the 91社区 Foundation, this dedicated space will provide hands-on STEM activities with visiting K-12 students, workshops for current educators and an opportunity for pre-service teachers to be immersed in delivering STEM content aligned with K-8 Indiana Educational Science Standards. 听
The space will be coordinated by the SwISTEM Resource Center of the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. This Lab aims to bridge the gap between the region鈥檚 most at-risk children and the opportunities available to them as young adults in higher education and, eventually, STEM careers.听听
Another new construction project in the lower level of Rice Library will be the Athletics Academic Center. This project will create a study area for 91社区 student-athletes as part of the University鈥檚 move to full Division I status.听
RFWC Storage and Bike Shop听
Work on additions to the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center (RFWC) is drawing to an end. This project includes the addition of storage and a new bike shop at the back of the RFWC, as well as updates to the free weights area. According to Reis, work should wrap up around the beginning of the Fall Semester.听
Career Success Center Renovation/Relocation听
The Career Success Center, currently located in the lower level of the Orr Center, is being moved to the first floor of the building with expanded and renovated office space. The goal is to have the new space ready in August, before the beginning of the Fall Semester. 听
